Theme-IV: Disaster Risk Reduction for Building Resilience among Local Communities (DRR)

Geographical Coverage:  District Rahimyar Khan Project duration: May 13, 2024 to July 14, 2024 Introduction and Background of program: District Rahimyar khan district has history of record high temperatures in summers due to desert area and the effect of climate change. The last recorded heatwaves of 2018 caused a number of deaths in the district, and even in the 2024, the NDMA has projected the heatwave in the district with the guidelines for prevention. Key highlight of project:

  • Coordination meetings with the stakeholders
  • Refresher of Paramedics for Healthcare Facilities
  • Identification of 80 youth members for training on Preparedness Days Training of 4 youth groups (20 members) on Awareness Sessions, First Aid, Emergency Response
  • 02 health facilities have heatstroke centers renovated and equipped with improved emergency response
  • 06 cooling stations established with provision of sufficient clean drinking water for 20000 persons per day
  • 16000 people reached with material provided
  • 80 youth volunteers trained and then cascading message to the 800 community persons
  • Awareness Campaign in the community by Youth groups
  • Provision of 900 heatwave Protection Kits (ORS, Towels, hand fans, portable water bottle, sunscreen, umbrella, caps):
  • Provision of kits / required material to Rescue 1122
